Oh, yeah. Sold out. As in… they be gone.
As I write these words, there are exactly TWO copies remaining of the hard cover edition of my first book, Inheriting the Trade, at the Beacon Press warehouse. That’s it. At that point it’s a sell out (and I mean that in the good way). The next two people who order them will fulfill a dream of mine.
Oh, sure, you can buy a used copy of the HC on Amazon for a penny (plus $3.99 shipping), but these two little gems are brand new; straight from my publisher. They rest side by side on what has now become a very lonely shelf. They need a good home.
And to the two people who buy them, if you’ll mail the book to me with your proof of purchase, I’ll sign it, write something special in it, and cover the return postage (write me here). And here’s a little tip. If you insert the code “CTTT” at checkout, not only will you receive a 20% discount and free shipping, Beacon Press will donate 10% of of your purchase price to Coming to the Table.
Of course, you can still buy a copy of the trade paperback version of Inheriting the Trade. The TPB is now in its second printing. And you can always buy the e-version for your e-reader. Overall, more than 11,000 copies have been sold in hardcover, paperback, and e-book versions.
And what perfect timing. The last HC copy of Inheriting the Trade will be sold just before the publication date of my new book, Gather at the Table, co-authored with my friend Sharon Morgan. And I would be remiss if I did not point out that the new book can now be pre-ordered from Beacon Press, and if you insert the code “CTTT” at checkout, you’ll receive the same deal as with Inheriting the Trade.
I have little doubt that every author dreams of her or his book selling out its first edition, and hopefully becoming a best seller. We believe in what we write. We believe our words will make a difference in the lives of our readers. But most writers never achieve best seller status (I must point out that Inheriting did really well in Denver). And still we write. Because we believe. Inheriting the Trade made no best seller lists outside of Denver, but it sold respectably. And I believe it made a difference. Beacon Press was pleased enough that we’re working together again now with Gather at the Table.
To my readers: thank you for your interest and for your support. I trust that you find a nugget or two in my writing that will help you in your own journey toward truth, justice, mercy, and peace.
For those who haven’t read Inheriting the Trade, two of you need to click here right now!
This may explain the comment I got at my event in R.I. last night, that Inheriting the Trade was sold out. Congratulations, and I'll start directing people specifically to the paperback edition!
Hey, I've got a job for ya: 2nd edition! Isn't that another author's dreeam?
Ha! Yes, Dave, it is! But it probably won't happen with the HC. It's already in a 2nd printing in paper back!
