You can now watch a preview of the upcoming television broadcast premiere of Traces of the Trade at the P.O.V. blog (which is definitely worth checking out as a terrific resource for news about documentary films that you might not otherwise learn about.
As I’ve noted previously–but is well worth repeating–Traces has been selected by P.O.V. to lead off its season of weekly broadcasts of “documentaries with a point of view” on PBS. The date is June 24. The time is 10:00pm. You should definitely check your local listings and you should contact your public television station to make sure they’re going to broadcast Traces on P.O.V.
Tom – I can see no way of communicating with you privately so here is my comment!
Please – Where is the blog entry re To the Best Of Our Knowledge radio program? (http://www.wpr.org/book/080330a.html) I heard it last night on KQED in Bay Area CA. It is because of that program that I found your site and your book. But your website is not mentioning this absolutely incredibly good program made by Wisconsin Public Radio….
I am thrilled about the work that I have heard on that program and from a few minutes' reading on your blog. Thrilled. I went to a museum in Bristol last summer, in UK and over three different visits, took in the awe-inspiring story of the campaign to end slavery. Well, that phase of it. As the WPR program informs us, there are huge ongoing issues with slavery today which require strong action to combat.
I was so struck by the fact that the name Bristol is associated so closely with slavery on both sides of the Atlantic. I would like to be reminded of where the Bristol is located on this side of the Atlantic that was a major hub for the slave trade.
I am going to look forward to seeing the film by your cousin and I hope very much that there will be a lot more media coverage of this issue.
My warm regards,
Caroline Webb (from UK, now in Bay Area)
Hi Caroline,
Thanks for writing. For you and anyone else reading this: there is contact info on the book's website, which is listed in the blogroll on the right hand side of the blog as "Inheriting the Trade." The website is http://www.inheritingthetrade.com. And to save you a "click" my e-mail address is tom@inheritingthe tradel.com.
There's no blog entry re: To The Best Of Our Knowledge because I wasn't aware of it until you wrote here. Thanks for letting me know. I'll give it a listen in the next few days. I went to the weblink you put into your posting (thanks for that!) and by coincidence I'm currently reading A Crime So Monstrous.
And the Bristol the DeWolf family is connected with in the U.S. is in Rhode Island. Thanks for making contact! This is most helpful information. –Tom
