I’ve written about Jackie Robinson in this blog here and here and at Beacon Broadside. I’ve always felt a special connection to Jackie as I was born 7 years to the day after he first donned a Brooklyn Dodgers uniform on April 15, 1947 becoming the first African American to play for a Major League baseball team.
Now, 62 years after his first game, Jackie Robinson will be honored once again. Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has requested that all players and uniformed personnel playing tomorrow wear Jackie’s #42 on their uniforms.
