Thoughts on Obama

Posted January 14th, 2008 by

As with most people in the United States, I’m watching with interest the Barack Obama presidential campaign. I’ve read his first book, Dreams From My Father, which I found enlightening in terms of getting glimpses of what Obama experienced growing up black in America.

My cousin Holly Fulton ran across an article in the Boston Globe by Joseph Williams, the deputy chief of the Globe’s Washington Bureau, which raises some of the many complicated issues of race connected with Obama’s candidacy. As a white man in these United States, it gives me much to ponder in terms of my own thoughts regarding not just Obama, but the deep issues of race that continue to impact what happens in our country.
