My friend Brad works in a library in Oregon. In placing the audio version of Inheriting The Trade into the catalogue system they use–not the only library catalogue system in the world, he told me, but it is the largest–he learned that:
440 libraries around the world–that use this catalogue system–have Inheriting The Trade available to their patrons.
63 libraries have it available on CD
15 have the mp3 CD
7 have Inheriting The Trade on Cassette.
I asked Brad to check out a couple of comparison titles to help me place this in context. The Slave Ship, by Marcus Rediker, is stocked by 1401 libraries. A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, is stocked by 2902.
For a first time author writing about a challenging subject that many people simply don’t want to talk about, I feel quite satisfied that 440 libraries believe Inheriting The Trade is a book their patrons will want to read.
