Traces of the Trade on national TV; book tour schedule grows

Posted March 18th, 2008 by

ANNOUNCED TODAY

P.O.V.–the Emmy Award winning documentary series on PBS–will launch its 2008 season with the television broadcast premiere of Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North on June 24 at 10:00pm (check your local listings).

We were all thrilled when it was announced at the Sundance Film Festival that P.O.V. had acquired the television rights to Traces. It is with even more excitement that we can now share the news that Traces will kick off the entire P.O.V. season. This will mean a great deal of additional exposure for the film, the book, and the message we are sharing.

BOOK TOUR TO RESUME IN APRIL
After having a few restful weeks at home with family and friends, my book tour schedule between now and the end of June is definitely filling up. Just today we confirmed that Katrina and I will appear together at the National Constitution Center on April 24 as part of the Legacy of 1808 series, which focuses on the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in the United States this year. Traces of the Trade will be screened twice that evening, we’ll speak with attendees about our journey, and I’ll be available to sign copies of Inheriting the Trade after each screening.

The Philadelphia premiere of the film is especially exciting for Katrina since Philly is her hometown. She grew up just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell.

Katrina and I will also appear together at the Council on Foundations Philanthropy Summit in May for a screening of the film (at the Newseum in Washington, DC, the brand new $450 million interactive museum) and a panel discussion on Race, Class and Privilege.

I’m not sure yet where I’ll be to watch the P.O.V. broadcast premiere of Traces of the Trade on PBS, but thanks to my wonderful publisher, Beacon Press, a few days later I’ll be at the Unitarian Universalist Association’s annual General Assembly in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to lead a workshop about Inheriting the Trade.

This is shaping up to be a very busy and fulfilling summer.
